Last weekend, while walking toward the starting line of another trail race, I realized something.
The people around me weren’t thinking about the finish line.
No one was trying to sprint the first kilometer.
Everyone was focused on something much simpler:
Starting well.
Managing their pace.
Trusting the months of preparation behind them.
The more I spend time on the trails, the more I see the same pattern in my professional life.
Great CRM isn’t built from one successful campaign.
It isn’t built from one personalization project.
It isn’t built from one impressive dashboard.
It’s built from hundreds of consistent decisions over time.
• Designing customer journeys that evolve.
• Learning from every A/B test.
• Improving onboarding one step at a time.
• Listening to customer behavior instead of assumptions.
Just like trail running, the goal isn’t to be the fastest at the beginning.
It’s to keep moving forward, adapt when conditions change, and still have enough energy for the long run.
That’s why I believe CRM—and perhaps most meaningful careers—isn’t a sprint.
It’s the long game.
